Cannabis Edible Brownies

Welcome to the world of weed brownies! You’ve seen them in movies, probably heard a funny story about them from one of your friends, but have you ever actually tried to make them?

Weed brownies are the most notorious cannabis-infused baked food, but why? They are the king of cannabis confectionery for a good reason. This cannabis treat is easy to make, delicious to eat and can be enjoyed in the comfort of your home or even given as a gift. But what else makes them so appealing?

What Are the Benefits of Edibles?

Edibles have quickly risen to the top of the favourite list for many. Not only are they delicious and easy to consume, but edibles also affect the body differently from smoking or vaping cannabis.

This is because THC is absorbed through the stomach and takes more time for your metabolism to process, so the effects are slower to take hold but result in a more potent experience.

Edibles can come in CBD formats, which can provide the anxiety-relieving benefits of cannabis without the high.

So why would you opt for an edible when lighting up a pre-roll seems more straightforward, and the effects kick in quicker? Well, for one, when you smoke a joint, the smell is very noticeable. But when you chow down edibles (like weed brownies), you can discreetly consume cannabis anywhere, anytime.

It’s also an excellent alternative for those who prefer not to smoke or look for longer-lasting effects.

How Do I Make Weed Brownies?

1. Choose Your Cannabis

We all know the secret ingredient in “special” brownies is cannabis.

You can add the cannabis flower right into the batter, but it might not yield as delicious of a dessert. There are a few tips and tricks for baking tasty cannabis-infused brownies.

Cannabis Oil

This is another popular infuser, which can be either made at home or bought from a store. You can either opt for a THC oil or CBD oil, depending on the effects you want to experience.

Cannabis oil is interchangeable with regular oil in any weed brownie recipe and can act as a vegan or lactose-free substitute for cannabutter.

The recipe below will be using cannabis oil, so make sure to have some on hand!

Cannabutter

Cannabutter is one of the most common ways to infuse an edible, especially when it comes to baked goods. This combination of cannabis and butter serves as a substitute for traditional butter, meaning that you could even turn your Grandma’s sacred brownies recipe into a weed brownies recipe if you want.

If you don’t have it already premade, you can find how to make cannabutter right here

Cannabis Sugar

If you have a sweet tooth, want to make your own infuser but don’t have the patience to stand next to your stove for hours, cannabis sugar is your go-to.

It’s incredibly easy to make. You simply need cannabis tincture and any type of sugar. After you mix those, let the sugar rest for 48 hours, and voila – it’s ready to be used.

Fair warning – this will make your batch ultrastrong.

Decarbed Flower

Remember how we said you couldn’t throw some flower into the brownie mix? Well, that’s not entirely true. You could if you decarb your cannabis first.

The most common way you decarb is by lighting it on fire (joints) or vaporizing it. But for cannabis that you plan to use in baking, you need to harness the power of the plant in your oven by baking it.

This is because compounds in cannabis (like THC and CBD), need heat to convert to the magical herb of relaxation in a process called decarboxylation.

If you’re using just cannabis flower, it’s essential to focus on the quality of the strain. Leaf Lab has a variety of top-notch strains that you can use, like Early Lemon Berry or Blue Dream.

Concentrates

You could also use cannabis concentrates as an infuser for your brownies, especially if you want to make them more potent. Any type of concentrate would work from CO2 Oil to shatter – just keep in mind that you might have to decarb them first if needed.

If you’re curious about which type of concentrate you should use, you can read more about them here

Remember that choosing between infusion methods is a personal preference, and you can use these infusers interchangeably in most edible recipes.

  2. Calculate Your Dosage

Now that you have your infuser think of the dose. Just like adding chili to a dish to make it spicy, you don’t want to make it too spicy, so you better dose your brownies accordingly.

If you’re new to cannabis, we recommend starting with a small dose and then increasing gradually. Knowing exactly how many milligrams of THC and CBD content is in your brownie makes it easier to know how it will make you feel, but this may be a little hard when you’re baking on your own.

You could refer to the flower’s packaging label that states the levels of THC and CBD to dose accordingly.

If math isn’t your thing, there are many THC calculators online which could make this step a breeze.

Now that we have our dosage, let’s get baking. We will use half a cup of cannabutter for this simple recipe.

3. Bake Some Brownies!

Fun Fact: You can customize this recipe to suit your taste.

Gather Your Baking Ingredients

You will need:

  • ⅔ cups cannabis oil
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • ⅓ cup cocoa powder
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 1 ½ cup of flour (or almond flour)

After gathering the ingredients, you can start the baking process:

Step 1: Preheat the oven to 350° F or 180° C. Meanwhile, beat eggs on low speed.

Step 2: Mix in the cannabis oil and sugar until well blended. After the mixture is uniform, add vanilla.

Step 3: Mix flour, salt, cocoa, and baking powder in a separate bowl.

Step 4: Stir dry ingredients into the butter and sugar mixture.

Step 5: After combining everything well, pour into a greased 9 x 9 oven-safe square pan.

Step 6: Bake for 20 minutes or until the sides just start to pull away from the pan. You can use a toothpick to check whether the brownies are fully baked before removing them from the oven.

Step 7: Let them cool completely before cutting.

Step 8: Sink your teeth into your weed brownie. You deserve it after all your hard work.

How Do I Store Weed Brownies?

Brownies

As with regular brownies, you want to ensure that your weed brownies are stored in an airtight container to keep them fresh and potent for as long as possible.

You can keep them for four days in the pantry or up to two weeks in the fridge.

Can You Freeze Weed Brownies?

Unless you’re making weed brownies to share with friends, you will probably not want to, nor should you eat an entire batch alone at once.

The good news is that you can freeze weed brownies and enjoy them at a later date without going through all the hassle of baking a new batch. Instead, simply wrap them in plastic wrap or aluminum foil, then slide them into a labeled freezer bag.

Some people report that the taste and potency can intensify after the brownies have been frozen, so look out for that!

When it comes to baking with cannabis, you can’t just throw some weed into a bowl of brownie batter and hope to sink your teeth in tasty goodness. Instead, you have to pick the right strain, put in the work to get the best tasting weed brownies you’ve ever tried!
